How to Search for an Expungement Case Through the Expungement Status Portal (expgportal.nj.gov)

This document details the two-step process of searching an expungement status through the Expungement Status Portal page.
During the registration process, be prepared to provide the following information:
  • First Name (Required)
  • Last Name (Required)
  • Middle Name
  • Suffix Name
  • Date of Birth (Required)
  • Cell Phone
  • Email (Required)

NOTE: Fields marked “(Required)” must be completed or you will not be able to search an expungement case.

  1. Go to the Expungement Status Portal page by entering the following URL into your internet browser: https://expungement.njsp.gov
  2. In order to search an expungement case, you must first create an Expungement Status Portal account. You can create an account by clicking the registration button.
  3. Enter your first name, last name, date of birth, cell phone, email address, verification code, and click the “Register Account” button.
  4. After creating your Expungement Status Portal account, you will be required to link it to your myNewJersey account.
    1. If you have an existing myNewJersey account, select “Yes” under Do you have a myNewJersey Logon ID? and logon to your account.
    2. If you do not have a myNewJersey account, select “No” under Do you have a myNewJersey Logon ID? to create one.
  5. Once your Expungement Status Portal account is linked to your myNewJersey account, the “Expungement Status Portal” hyperlink will be displayed in your myNewJersey account. Use this hyperlink to return to the Expungement Status Portal page at any time to search an expungement case or check on the status of an existing case.
  6. Once your Expungement Status Portal account is linked to your myNewJersey account, you can also sign in directly through the Expungement Status Portal (https://expungement.njsp.gov) by clicking the “Expungement Status Portal Account Login” button. You will then be directed to logon to your myNewJersey account.
  7. After signing in, your name will be displayed in the upper right-hand corner of the page. Click the “Expungement Status” button to search an expungement case.
  8. Click the “Add Case” button to search an expungement case.
  9. Your expungement case will be listed in the “My Case List” section along with the current status of the expungement.
